Paper Board

Subtitle Text

Abstract

The invention relates to a pulp-based paper board produced from virgin or recycled cellulose pulp through a multi-layer forming and pressing process. This high-performance board exhibits excellent stiffness, strength, and surface characteristics, making it ideal for a wide range of packaging and printing applications. Engineered for uniformity and durability, the pulp paper board offers a sustainable solution with high printability and compatibility with various converting processes, including lamination, coating, and die-cutting. The innovation supports both functional and aesthetic demands in modern packaging.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Paperboard has long been a critical material in packaging and printing due to its versatility, biodegradability, and strength-to-weight ratio. Historically, paperboards were made primarily from virgin hardwood or softwood fibers; however, increasing environmental awareness and cost considerations have led to a broader use of sustainably sourced pulp—including a mix of mechanical, chemical, and recycled pulps.

This invention focuses on refining the fiber selection, sheet formation, and multi-stage pressing/drying processes to yield a paperboard with improved stiffness, surface smoothness, and print fidelity. The ability to tailor fiber composition—such as incorporating bleached chemical pulp for top layers and unbleached pulp for bulk—allows for optimized performance and cost efficiency.

In addition to mechanical improvements, this pulp paper board supports eco-friendly goals, reducing reliance on plastic and non-renewable packaging materials. It also complies with international standards for food safety, recyclability, and print compatibility, making it a preferred substrate in sustainable packaging strategies.
